1. Why am I forced to have a password to log onto the Server?

Answer:

This is a prerequisite of Microsoft Security, on which the Server security has been built, therefore a password is required in order to be able to log onto a Server.

2. What does this Login error mean ‘A required privilege is not held by the client.

Answer:

- This will occur on all operating systems, if the user account or group that is being used to log on does not have one or more of the following user rights assigned: 'Login as a batch job' must be assigned to all the specified users and groups to successfully log into this Server and use either the Designer or Operator.
- In addition, when the Server is being run on a Windows 2000 machine either as an application or as a service using a specific logon user account, ensure that the following rights have been assigned to the user account being used to logon to the machine:
- 'Act as part of the operating system', 'Increase scheduling priority' and 'Increase process level token'.

Note1: If the Server is run as a service, using the default “Local System” account, these rights do NOT need to be assigned, since this logon account has these rights by default – this is the Microsoft recommended method.

Note2: These additional rights are NOT required on Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server machines.
However, this login error will also occur on Windows 2000 operating systems, when a login attempt is made immediately after modifying these user rights.
Please note, for Windows 2000 Operating Systems: It is necessary to log off the currently active user after modifying user rights and security settings in order for these changes to take effect.

Note: Depending upon the exact actions of the user this may not always be reported using this error message.
