1. Why does the Adroit Eventlog Service not start automatically, in Windows 2000, but only when an administrator has logged on (in Adroit), even though it was configured to start automatically under the system account logon? Answer: To be able to successfully start a service you need to ensure that your auto-logon user is a member of the Power Users group. 2. How do you run the Setup program when booting straight into Adroit? Answer: Use the Ctrl Alt Del function and select the ‘Task Manager’ button then select the ‘File’ menu and the ‘New Task’ menu item and type in ‘PSEXE.EXE’ and press OK and the Adroit Setup will then run. 3. Can I install both Adroit 5.0 and Adroit 4.2 on one machine? Answer: Yes, if each version is installed into different directories and then the agent path, in the 'Advanced Configuration' page of the Adoit Setup program, must be manually adjusted to refer to the required version that you want to use and the "AdrVersionCo.dll" will give inaccurate information regarding the Adroit versions. For more information, search for this Adroit Help topic: Advanced Configuration 4. For more information, search for this Adroit Help topic: Advanced Configuration. 5. When trying to load Adroit, a dynamic link library could not be found - why? Answer: The installation of Adroit has become corrupted, it is necessary to reinstall Adroit. 6. Why do I get the ShellExecuteEx failed code 3 error when trying to install Adroit on VISTA? Answer: This error occurs when you run the Adroit installation from a virtual drive created with the "subst" command and is a restriction of the VISTA operating system. In this case, a possible workaround is to: 1. Copy BOTH the Adroit7 folder and MSNET folder from the CD (or mapped network share) into a folder on the computer that you want to install Adroit on. 2. Run the Setup.exe file (in the copied Adroit7 folder) to install Adroit. 3. Delete these copied folders once Adroit is installed. 7. Why do the Adroit clients not connect to the remote Agent Servers or what is preventing the cluster partners from connecting? Answer: Some anti-virus programs, such as EInoculate, have a facility for scanning processes. These anti-virus programs effectively stop any "unknown processes" that attempt to make a network connection for inter PC communications. To work-around this, configure such anti-virus programs to exclude the scanning of the "as.exe" and "adroit.exe" processes and any other processes that depends on network communications e.g. missrvr.exe. 8. How do I configure the Adroit .MIM files from being recognized as files that can be opened by Winzip? Answer: The reason this occurs is because the “.MIM” extension does refer to an archive format. Depending on your Winzip version, the procedure to disassociate these files from being recognized as files that can be opened by Winzip, is as follows: From the Winzip "Options/Configuration" menu, click on the "Associations" button, clear the tick-mark for ".MIM". Click the OK button for this dialog and click the OK button for the Winzip dialog. You can however not launch mimic files properly from explorer by associating them with Adroit.exe at this time. This feature is not being considered for Adroit 5.0. 9. How do you do reporting? Answer: A number of tools are provided with Adroit to facilitate the organization and communication of information from operations to management.Use the reporting tool in Excel. The DbAccess Agent that provides a link between Adroit and various external databases, by using OLE DB technology. It is ideally used in applications where data inside the Agent server is periodically written to a database (such as at the end of a batch job) for reporting reasons. The OLE Server Interface forms the standard API (Application Programming Interface) for Adroit agent servers, examples of OLE Interface implementations: Production Report Utility for Microsoft Excel, an example of how to interface to Adroit via the Adroit OLE Server, MISSRVR.EXE. Management Information Reports, an example of a tool that the user can create that enables him to process information in and out of the Agent Server, using Microsoft Excel as the user interface instead of Adroit. For more information, search for this Adroit Help topic: Management Information Tools. 10. Why cannot I install some software after Adroit has been installed on the computer? Answer: One possible reason for this is that it has been found that the Adroit Eventlog service can prevent the installation of the software. To test, simply stop the service and reinstall the software. Tip: You can stop the Adroit Eventlog service by typing the following into the Start, Run… dialog and then clicking OK: net stop elservice. 11. Why am I unable to connect to my Local Computer when using the ADROIT.XLA utility (launched by the "Excel XLA" button from the "Reporting" page) in the Adroit Demo? Note: This same problem exists when opening the Adroit Project Explorer during the Adroit Demo. Answer: The reason for this is that the Adroit Demo uses the agent server name of "AS", which is different from the agent server name used in your current setup configuration. Therefore, if you simply change your agent server name to "AS", this will solve the problem. 12. How can I use Adroit in Arabic? Answer: Note: This should only serve as a guide. 1. Install Arabic Windows language set (this will differ according to your operating system, which may install it while you first install Windows). 2. Follow normal Adroit installation. 3. Use the Regional Settings Applet in Control panel to set your language correctly. 4. Copy the files from the Adroit CD in languages\Arabic folder Note: These DLLs have the correct language set codes, but are not translated; hence they need to be edited accordingly. 5. Edit these files using a Windows "Resource Editor". 6. Replace the catlog.dll and evtlog.dll files in the Adroit system directory with these files. 7. The Event-Viewer will then provide correct category descriptions. Note1: Use an Arabic font for all of the mimics drawn. The exact font to use will differ according to your needs. Note2: The description fields for the Marshall agent cannot be translated. 13. Where can I find Adroit updates? Answer: Adroit updates are available on the internet from the adroit website: www.adroit.co.za, from the main menu select 'Downloads' then select the required product e.g. Adroit 4.2 Software and download the update in the format that is most suitable. Alternatively, select the 'Web Updates' item from the Adroit Start Menu which will will run Internet Explorer, and open the Adroit FTP site from which the update files can be downloaded. For more information, search for this Adroit Help topic: The Adroit Start Menu 14. How do I upgrade from an old version of Adroit to the latest version of Adroit? Answer: We advise against "skipping" versions when updating, even if you are lagging behind in the upgrade process, we recommend that you still upgrade consecutively and do not jump versions. For instance if you are currently running Adroit version 4.0 and you want to upgrade to Adroit version 4.2, it is necessary to first upgrade to Adroit version 4.1. Although upgrading should be a transparent operation, but due to industry requirements, file formats change to accommodate new features (trend windows are especially affected) and sometimes the old file's compatibility is removed for files that are "too old" in order to provide our customers with high performance. When upgrading, it is important to opening and saving all your Adroit document files so that they "upgrade" to the new version. 15. How do I configure windows, so that if the currently logged on user is an operator to replace, then adroit.exe must be used as my shell, but when I log on as Administrator, then I want explorer.exe to be my shell? Answer: On the domain server, configure a policy for the operator user. In this policy there is a configuration option to specify the shell for that user. You can configure Adroit.exe for the operator user and explorer.exe for the Administrator user. Also, this being configured on the domain controller: deployment is automatic to all of the client stations. i.e. you only configure this in one place and not on every client workstation. 16. The Adroit reporting tool is causing errors in the Event log - why? Answer: Add an Integer agent called OLE_FAIL to the Agent Server, this is used by the tool to indicate and test its connection to Adroit. 17. How can I get a time synchronization utility? Answer: The Adroit 7 CDs from Adroit 7.0 Release 2.1 (and the Adroit 6 CDs from Adroit 6.0 Release 5.1) provide an Adroit time synchronization utility known as the Windows Time Service Configuration utility (in the \Utilities\Time Synchronization folder). As the name suggests this utility helps you to configure the Windows Time service (installed on your computers by default) to ensure that their time is being synchronized. Consult the provided help file for details on how to use this utility. 18. How do you create reports using DDE in Excel? Answer: Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) is a form of interprocess communication that uses shared memory to exchange data between applications. Applications can use DDE for ongoing exchanges between them whereby they ADVISE one another as data changes or events are triggered. Alternatively, macros can be created in the application that allows one shot POKES or REQUESTS of data to and from the Agent Server. DDE links can be set up between applications residing on the same machine, or across the network between different machines. If the application is running on a machine that does not support DDE Server, then the link can be set up using the resident Network DDE service provided by the operating system, by using the Adroit DDE Server facility directly between Windows NT machines, or indirectly using the NetDDE program for machines running Windows 95. For more information, search for this Adroit Help topic: Dynamic Data Exchange 19. I previously had Adroit installed on the D: drive and have created numerous mimics with execute command behaviours that open other Adroit windows, specifying the full path for each of these files. Now I have moved my Adroit system to a new machine that does not have a D: drive and these paths are no longer valid. What is the easiest method that I can use, so that these paths will work again? Answer: Run the following command in a batch file "subst D: c:\", before starting the UI. Note: Preferably place a shortcut to this batch file in the STARTUP folder (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup), so that it will be run every time the machine is started. This in effect creates a “virtual” D: drive which is actually the C: drive and so the paths used in Adroit will work again. 20. How do I re-configure the time server, implemented using Microsoft's TIMESERV utility, without restarting Windows? Answer: This time server is configured by editing the TIMESERV.INI file which is in the WINDOWS (WINNT) folder. Note: Refer to the ‘Read me.txt’ file on the Adroit 5.0 CD in the ‘Utilities\timeserv’ folder for instructions on how to configure this file. Once this file has been appropriately configured, restart this time server as follows: 1. At the DOS prompt, change directory to the system32 folder. 2. Type NET STOP "TIME SERVICE" - this will stop the service. 3. Type TIMESERV -UPDATE - this will reread then INI file. 4. Type NET START "TIME SERVICE" - this will start the service. 21. How do you setup reports in Excel? Answer: Use the Production Report Utility (PRODREP97.XLS) found in the Samples folder, which provides sample reports, demonstrating whatcan be achieved using the OLE interface. For more information, search for this Adroit Help topic: Management Information Reporter 22. Why, when installing Adroit 4.2 on Windows 2000 or XP, do I get an error that another Uninstaller is running, even when no nother applications are running? Answer: This error occurs if you are trying to install Adroit without having Administrator rights on the machine, log off the current user and log on as an Administrator and install Adroit. 23. Why does the Adroit About dialog not appear? Answer: During the installation of Adroit the ATL.DLL file from Microsoft has not been registered. To fix this problem: 1. Close all programs and open a command prompt. 2. Change the active directory to adroit e.g. cd c:\adroit 3. Then type: regsvr32 atl.dll and press enter 4. A dialog will then appear confirming that the registration of this file succeeded. 5. Run the Adroit Setup, and click on the About button. This bug has been fixed in later releases of Adroit 4.2 24. Why do I get the ShellExecuteEx failed code 87 error when trying to install Adroit on VISTA? Answer: This error occurs when you run the Adroit installation from mapped network share and is a restriction of the VISTA operating system. 25. How do I check the Adroit version information? Answer: Run Adroit Setup (or PSEXE.EXE in the Adroit system directory), press the "About" button to display the Adroit version information dialog box. If there is a "Details" button on this latter dialog, this is indicative of file version errors - check these out, phoning Adroit Support and if necessary install the latest update to fix any irregularities. 26. Can changes be made on Windows 95 and transferred to Windows NT? Answer: PLEASE NOTE1: From Adroit 5 onward ONLY NT-based operating systems are supported. PLEASE NOTE2: From Adroit 6 onward ONLY NT-based operating systems from Windows 2000 (i.e. excluding Windows NT) are supported. Adroit Version 4 supports both application systems. All files created by Adroit are binary compatible, so mimics, trends, WGP files etc will run the same on both systems. Appearance differences may occur in the mimics because of graphics features like rounded corners on rectangles, and exact line thickness may differ between the operating systems. Certain drivers do not run on windows 95/98, and security features configured on NT systems will not work identically when transferred to '95/98 systems. The Adroit Agent Server also does not run as a service on '95/98, since services are not supported on those systems. 27. Why when installing Adroit to another hard drive partition, other than C, do I still need about 120 MB of free space on the C: drive itself, before I am able to install Adroit 5? Answer: The reason for this is that InstallShield copies the CAB installation file to a temporary folder on the C:\ drive before the Adroit files are installed to the specified location, therefore ensure that there is enough free space to accommodate the "Data1.cab" file, which is located in the "Adroit5" folder on the Adroit 5.0 CD. |
